State of the Community

Session Summary:
Report of activity and progress in the different parts of the MeeGo project. What is the reality today compared to the plans and expectations with a special attention to best examples and areas needing improvement.
Session Abstract:

The MeeGo community is made of all the people involved in the project in a way or another, from the Technical Steering Group and the Working Groups to volunteers contributing translations or forum support. It's a complex community handling complex tasks while establishing new processes and routines. A lot has been discussed and done since the MeeGo project was launched. Where are we now? And how are we doing?

Dawn Foster and Quim Gil coordinate the Community Office, which defines the strategy for collaboration tools and processes within the MeeGo project, and observes its implementation. We are involved in the development of meego.com, the organization of MeeGo activities and events, the organization of Technical Steering Group meetings and many more little tasks focusing on the full project openness and deployment.

In this session we plan to go through the different areas of the community, analysing their activities and stressing what excels and what not. Since the MeeGo launch, the project has gone through several discussions, plans and announcements. It has created diverse expectations among industry players, developers and open source enthusiasts. What is the contrast between expectations and reality? How far is the project from a point of consolidation and full deployment?

Expect data, quotes and screenshots sustaining the points. :)
