An Inside Look into the MeeGo Community Metrics

Session Summary:
I gather piles of data about the community and share it with you every month. In this session, I'll present some of my findings about who participates in the MeeGo community, what people are doing and where they are participating. I will share data gathering techniques along with trends, insights and analysis of what it all means. Another goal of this session beyond information sharing is to get feedback from the community and ideas for how we can improve the metrics process as the community matures.
Session Abstract:

If you want to learn more about who participates in the MeeGo community, what people are doing and where they are participating, then this is the session for you. I will walk you through a recent metrics report and provide more details about the data gathering techniques that I use to generate the metrics.

The monthly metrics reports currently contain:
* a quick summary of activities in the past month
* media coverage
* subscribers / membership numbers
* top discussion topics and number of mailing list / forum posts
* content statistics
* IRC, bug and gitorious data
* top participants

The most interesting part of gathering metrics data is looking at the trends in all of these various areas over time, and the growth in the MeeGo community over the first 6 months has been impressive. While the growth is great to see and easy to measure, the really interesting part is in the analysis and looking at the conversations that people are having and the topics that generate the most discussion.

After we've talked about what metrics we have now, I want to get feedback from community members to see if there is additional data that we should gather or additional analysis that would be helpful for people who are participating in MeeGo. This is a great way for you to provide feedback and help influence future MeeGo community metrics.
